Kevin Lanza

Kevin Lanza, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences and Epidemiology at the Austin campus of UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. He directs the Health Equity Action Together (HEAT) Lab, where he studies how extreme heat and other environmental conditions shape health and behavior, and partners with communities to design and evaluate nature‑based and built‑environment interventions.

His work focuses on creating heat‑resilient parks, trails, and transit systems that support the health of people and the planet. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and has been featured in The New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post, and USA Today.

Lanza serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee and contributes to the forthcoming U.S. National Physical Activity Plan.
