Liza Meyer

President
Friends of the Public Garden

Liza Meyer is President of Friends of the Public Garden, where she leads the organization’s mission to steward, enhance, and advocate for Boston’s historic downtown parks – the Boston Common, the Public Garden, and the Commonwealth Avenue Mall – in partnership with Boston Parks and Recreation Department. Liza combines her expertise in landscape architecture, public sector leadership, and private sector experience to promote a vision of parks as essential civic infrastructure.

Prior to joining the Friends, Liza served the City of Boston Parks Department as Chief Landscape Architect for 14 years and as Interim Parks Commissioner from 2024 to 2025. In these positions, she oversaw the planning and design of park projects citywide, including long-term vision plans for some of Boston’s most significant open spaces, like Boston Common, Franklin Park, and Boston’s Urban Forest Plan. In collaboration with the Boston Planning and Development Agency, Liza initiated the Shadow Impacts on Parkland Study, and now brings that focus to her sunshine advocacy work for Friends of the Public Garden.
