By working with nature, green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) in parks helps reduce flooding and its financial impacts while enhancing biodiversity and protecting ecosystems. It can improve public health outcomes by filtering air and water pollution, reducing urban heat, and creating new green spaces.
However, due to several barriers, our parks and public green spaces are underutilized for GSI. Two of the most complex challenges are managing the maintenance of GSI in parks, and the training and development of a workforce to provide it.
This panel will explore:
- What adaptive management of GSI in parks looks like in practice and why it’s critical for success.
- What policies and practices are needed to support long-term maintenance of GSI in parks.
- How parks and water agencies can develop a skilled GSI workforce and support a career ladder in the field.
