Sonja Hartmann, PE, WEDG, ENV SP is a Senior Civil Engineer at Arup focused on implementing sustainability in infrastructure design and construction. She has designed urban waterfront parks in New York and New Jersey, as well as a variety of infrastructure assets including airports, data centers, and train stations.
As the Civil Design Lead for the Liberty State Park Revitalization Program in Jersey City, NJ, she assessed coastal and inland flood risks and is working collaboratively with ecologists and architects to implement resilient solutions in the design of new park elements and historic retrofits.
Across a variety of project types, she has conducted embodied carbon assessments and developed actionable strategies to reduce carbon and enhance biodiversity in site infrastructure. She is passionate about integrating resilience, decarbonization, and biodiversity in design to move the industry toward a more holistically sustainable future.
