Sarah Marshall

Sarah Marshall is the Manager of the Historic Preservation and Tourism Program for the City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department, where she leads efforts to identify, restore, interpret, and promote the historic and cultural resources that shape Austin’s park system.

A public historian with fifteen years of experience in community history, Sarah is passionate about making the past feel present and accessible. She has helped build the department’s historic resource inventory and guide interpretive planning and placemaking initiatives that connect visitors and residents to Austin’s diverse stories.

Her previous work with the Texas Historical Commission and the Texas Archive of the Moving Image strengthened her commitment to preserving local heritage in meaningful, community-centered ways.

She holds a B.A. in History from Texas A&M University and an M.A. in History from Texas State University, and she brings energy, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit to preserving the places and stories that make Austin’s parks special.
