Marjorie Flanagan
City of Austin Cultural Education and Programs
Marjorie Flanagan is an accomplished arts and culture professional with more than 15 years of experience shaping dynamic, community-centered art programs and facilities. She serves as Division Manager for the City of Austin’s Cultural Education and Programs team overseeing staff and facilities across Austin with the Department of Arts, Culture, Music & Entertainment.
Most recently serving as Director of Public Art for the Texas State University System, she managed artworks across 13 campuses and led the development of the system’s first comprehensive public art program, including policies, procedures, and multi-million-dollar commissions. Prior to this role, she held multiple leadership positions with the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program, where she oversaw staff, guided artist selection processes, and facilitated extensive community engagement. Her career also includes nearly a decade in private art consulting, where she managed large-scale commercial projects and significantly grew business revenue while helping fortune 500 companies purchase artwork. Flanagan’s work is rooted in collaboration, strategic planning, and a commitment to expanding access to arts and culture.
She holds a Master of Arts in Art Education with a Museum Education focus from the University of Texas at Austin.
