Giles Garrison
City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities
Giles is a native of Richmond, Virginia. She served as the first female superintendent of the James River Park System, and recently became a Programs and Operations Manager for the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. Giles is dedicated to working with colleagues and partners to rejuvenate park landscapes and revive public facilities to create welcoming and wild places for all to enjoy.
She received a BA in American Studies from Williams College and a Masters of Urban & Regional Planning from VCU. Previous to joining the City of Richmond, she was the director of Groundwork RVA, a nonprofit dedicated to engaging Richmond teens in the outdoors, and an adjunct faculty member at VCU where she taught “Uncovering Richmond” in the Urban Studies program.
