Christine Chute Canal
Austin Parks & Recreation
Christine Chute Canul joined the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department in 2018 and manages the Community PARKnerships Program, which serves as the Department’s central hub for external partnerships. Through this program, she oversees a wide range of partnership models—from volunteer stewardship and community-led projects to complex, long-term public-private agreements that support park operations, maintenance, programming, and capital improvements. Her work focuses on leveraging external resources, aligning projects with City priorities, and ensuring that partnerships deliver measurable community benefit while supporting the long-term sustainability of parkland.
Prior to joining the City, Christine spent seven years in New York City working with community-focused nonprofits and an additional 10 years with Keep Texas Beautiful supporting cities in developing local capacity-building initiatives across the state.
She completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master’s in Urban Planning from Hunter College. Originally from Oak Cliff in Dallas, Christine now lives in Austin with her husband and three children—and enjoys dragging her family to just about every park and greenbelt in the Austin park system.
