The East Austin Flood Tour is an interactive driving tour through East Austin to explore and discuss the history and community of how East Austin has been impacted by floods, policies, regulation, and historical disinvestment. This tour provides insights for participants with both an environmental and governmental perspective. This collaborative tour will be led by Jose Guerrero, P.E., a civil engineer and retired Assistant Director from the City of Austin’s Watershed Protection Department, with over 40 years of experience.

The tour highlights local Parks and Recreation and Watershed Protection’s community partners that have advocated for equitable infrastructure as well as innovative remedies engaged to mitigate flooding, erosion, and support water quality. This tour additionally offers personal stories of community members’ struggle, resilience, and collaboration with City of Austin Watershed Protection to preserve life, property and the environment. Stops include APR Community PARKner Circle Acres Nature Preserve run by Ecology Action of Texas (a brownfield turned into one of the most diverse nature preserves in Austin); the historic Montopolis bridge over the Colorado River, the Tillery Street Detention Pond/Soccer Field, and more.
