Discover Austin’s evolving urban trail network on a 7-mile guided bike tour along the Red Line Parkway from Downtown Austin to the Boggy Creek Greenbelt and back. This active excursion highlights how trails and transit can work hand in hand to create healthier, more connected, and more resilient communities.

Along the route, we’ll explore real-world examples of transit-oriented and trail-oriented development, varied trail design approaches, and the story behind the ambitious vision for the Red Line Parkway—a 36+ mile linear park and urban trail that will one day link Downtown Austin with Leander. Built along the CapMetro Red Line commuter rail corridor, the Parkway demonstrates the challenges and opportunities of “rail-with-trail” design, requiring collaboration among city departments, CapMetro, and community partners to navigate rights-of-way, flood control, and neighborhood integration.

We’ll also visit the Boggy Creek Trail, one of Austin’s most innovative segments, featuring dual-track design for walkers and cyclists, ADA-accessible routes, stormwater management, and shaded connections that enhance safety and comfort. As part of the Parkway, it shows how trail investments can improve equity and access for historically underserved neighborhoods while promoting active transportation and climate resilience.

This tour offers more than just a ride—it’s a chance to experience firsthand how trails can catalyze economic development, increase property values, and enhance livability by linking people directly to transit, jobs, parks, and cultural assets. You’ll see how the Red Line Parkway is poised to become not only a major mobility corridor but also a public space that weaves together community health, sustainability, and Austin’s future growth.

Note: Bikes and helmets will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers, bring sunscreen and a full water bottle, and be prepared for light activity. For participants who prefer not to bike back, the CapMetro Red Line train offers return service downtown ($2.50 tickets available onsite).
