Come for a guided hike of Blunn Creek Nature Preserve accompanied by a member of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Land Management Team and Super Volunteers, or better known as Park Adopters.
This 38-acre preserve is nestled in the heart of the urban core and is an example of what can be achieved by neighborhood groups in collaboration with the City of Austin. Through partnerships between local volunteer groups, supported by non-profits such as Austin Parks Foundation, and leadership of the Land Management team, multiple examples of treatments have been completed that will ensure the preserve is more resilient to climate change, has improved ecosystem services, improved wildlife habitat, and an ecosystem that is resilient to catastrophic wildfire, flood, plant disease. This highlights examples of active management in natural areas outlined in a comprehensive Land Management Plan that was passed by Austin City Council in the fall of 2023. The plan outlines the Parks and Recreation Departments strategies to address vulnerabilities related to climate change through the lens of equity.
Note: Participants should have the ability to hike on various terrain. There is approximately 100 ft of elevation change and uneven surfaces. Restrooms and water are not available on this workshop.
