Begin your morning in Austin’s beloved Zilker Park with a visit to the historic Zilker Lodge, home of Austin Sunshine Camps since 1928. For nearly a century, this nonprofit has broken down barriers to nature by providing overnight camp—at no cost—to more than 500 Central Texas youth each summer.
Guided by camp staff, you will hear from counselors and proud alumni, you’ll gain insight into the access gap that prevents many racially and economically marginalized youth from experiencing overnight camp and sustained time in nature. Learn how ASC’s trauma-informed programming cultivates resilience and fosters “learned hopefulness” through safe, supportive, and life-changing experiences.
After seeing camp in action and hearing powerful personal stories, choose your own adventure: soar on the high ropes course or enjoy classic camp traditions—crafting friendship bracelets, hiking shaded greenbelt trails, and tackling teamwork initiatives.
Note: Portions of this tour may prove difficult for the mobility challenged.
