M. Sonny Garza

Commissioner Garza brings over 20 years of civic leadership and a passion for community development. A retired marketing professional, he has shaped city policies, including initiatives to promote diverse, affordable housing. As Chairman of TIRZ 8, he led the largest annexation in the zone’s history, expanding it to 8,000 acres and driving transformative projects such as the redevelopment of Broadway and Park Place Boulevards, the Houston Botanic Garden, and Bayou Greenways 2020 trail enhancements. His leadership also resulted in the rehabilitation of 11 parks, the acquisition of a new 5-acre park, and critical infrastructure upgrades. Mr. Garza’s vision continues to enhance Houston’s resilience, connectivity, and quality of life.
