Join us for a hands-on, sensory-rich journey through the Festival Beach Community Garden and Food Forest—Austin’s first public food forest and a nationally recognized model for community-led food resilience.

Nestled near downtown along Lady Bird Lake, this site is more than beautiful—it’s groundbreaking. You’ll tour both the vibrant Community Garden and lush Food Forest, where you’ll harvest, taste, and learn about edible plants, regenerative design, and public access to fresh food. Enjoy tea tasting with herbs picked right from the forest floor!

Along the way, you’ll meet the changemakers—neighbors, nonprofits, and many City of Austin departments—who have come together to make this community-powered model thrive. This initiative is deeply aligned with the Austin Travis County Food Plan, which guides our vision for a just, resilient local food system.

Explore the future with us: how food forests and orchards can transform floodplain buyout land, how workforce development and harvest hubs support local resilience, and how urban agriculture is helping Austin lead in sustainability.

Learn about permaculture design, water-wise strategies, soil regeneration, and the power of mutually beneficial planting. Whether you’re a local advocate or visiting for the first time, this is your chance to see innovation rooted in place.

Come walk the land, taste the future of our parkland, and experience how Austin grows community from the ground up.
