Join us for a two-mile walking tour along Boggy Creek Trail and the EastLink corridor to explore East Austin’s past, present, and future through the lens of green spaces—and discover how parks can serve as powerful tools for connection and resilience.

Together, we will identify the historical impacts of the 1928 Austin Master Plan and recognize how systemic disinvestment has shaped park access and equity in East Austin—while drawing parallels to challenges and opportunities in participants’ own cities. At stops including Parque Zaragoza, Rosewood Park, Delores Duffie Recreation Center, Downs-Mabson Field, and the historic Henry Madison Cabin, participants will examine how these places embody both cultural heritage and community strength.

Along the way, you’ll examine successful models of cross-sector collaboration between municipalities, nonprofits, community groups, and corporate partners that have revitalized and reimagined inclusive park spaces in the face of rapid gentrification.

You’ll also analyze how public art in community parks can honor cultural history, express neighborhood identity, and foster community engagement. Hear from local partners—including Austin Parks Foundation, East Austin Conservancy, recreation center staff, and neighborhood artists—who are using creativity, collaboration, and advocacy to transform public spaces into places of healing, joy, and belonging.

Note: Participants should be able to comfortably walk 2 miles and be outside in the heat.
