Sherazad Mehta

Associate Principal
Arup

Sherazad Mehta, PE, is an Associate Principal in Arup’s New York office with more than 30 years of experience delivering land development and large-scale infrastructure projects that serve the public realm. His work is rooted in a commitment to advancing equity through the design of urban parks and public open spaces – places that expand access to nature, support public health, and reflect the needs of the communities they serve.

Having lived in the New York City region for over 40 years, Sherazad brings both professional expertise and lived experience to shaping parks that respond to local priorities, cultural context, and environmental challenges. He currently serves as Project Director for Liberty State Park in New Jersey and the New Stapleton Waterfront in Staten Island, New York, where equitable access, climate resilience, and community stewardship are central to the project vision.

Across his career, Sherazad has contributed to more than 30 urban parks and public open space projects, guiding them from planning through design and construction. His portfolio includes projects that transform formerly inaccessible or underutilized land into inclusive civic spaces, such as the East River Waterfront Esplanade & Pier, Imagination Playground, Pier A Plaza, Teardrop Park, and the Fresh Kills Park Master Plan in New York City; Mulberry Commons and the Essex Hudson Greenway Visioning Study in New Jersey; Pennsylvania Avenue at the White House in Washington, D.C.; and New Songdo City Central Park in South Korea.

In Summer 2025, Sherazad was nominated to the Board of Directors of City Parks Alliance as its first practicing engineer. Outside of work, he is a parent of two young sons, a Little League baseball coach, and a lifelong believer in parks as essential civic infrastructure for thriving, inclusive communities.
