Kerstin Johansson
City of Austin Watershed Protection Department
Kerstin Johansson (She/her) is Environmental Program Coordinator with Austin Watershed Protection. Kerstin grew up in rural Vermont, where exploring forests and catching frogs with her family sparked her lifelong love of nature and connecting people to it. She earned degrees in Environmental Studies, Anthropology, and Education, later completing a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Her early career as a teacher in Colorado and Cali, Colombia deepened her commitment to linking people and the environment.
Since moving to Austin in 2015, Kerstin has dedicated herself to advancing sustainability, equity, and green workforce development. She spent five years as an Austin Park Ranger, where she relaunched the Park Ranger Cadet Program, and later joined the Austin Civilian Conservation Corps (ACCC), helping expand equitable pathways into green careers.
Kerstin has strengthened partnerships across City departments, the Equity Network, and nonprofits, supporting networks like the Emerging Green Leaders and the Green Workforce Collaborative. In 2025, she joined Austin Watershed Protection’s Planning Team, where she supports interdepartmental planning, collaboration, and implementation of City initiatives—including green stormwater infrastructure—while continuing to champion a strong and inclusive green workforce.
