Al Bangoura leads the vision and strategic direction to Minneapolis Park and Recreation organization’s service delivery departments and implements Board’s policy. He overseas an annual operating and capital budget of $126 million and serves as an ambassador to the community and other city and state governmental agencies. He has direct responsibility of the following departments — planning, operations, recreation services, park police, human resources, intergovernmental relations, public relations/communications and marketing departments. Al provides leadership to 550 full-time and 1150 temporary employees.

He previously served as Recreation Superintendent, Mecklenburg County, NC, where he led the realignment of 17 recreation centers and facility managers including listening sessions, core competency evaluation and community needs assessments; launched Connecting Communities to Nature initiative through staff training and implementation; led Open Streets and Bike Initiative; and led the opening of Eastway Regional Center.
