King County Parks is looking for Part-Time Control Room Technicians to join their team at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (WKCAC), located in Federal Way, WA.
You will have the opportunity to work at a world-class aquatic center that has an Olympic-sized competition pool and is a legacy venue of the 1990 Goodwill Games.  It is also a regional training center for competitive aquatic sports, and is open to the public for lap swims, family swimming, water exercises, and swimming lessons.

About the Role:
The Part-time Control Room Technician is responsible for operating timekeeping equipment, scoreboard operation, data handling software, video replay equipment, and processing other official aquatic event information. This position is considered a technical expert and is responsible for using multiple specialized software applications and programs and providing technical assistance to co-workers and customers at aquatic events. This work is very precise and requires great attention to detail and requires a high level of customer service under demanding circumstances.

Job Duties

What you will be doing:
  • Operate OMEGA sports equipment for swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo.
  • Operate software that manages data handling, scoreboard operation and video replay systems.
  • Operate a walkie-talkie and other communication devices.
  • Operate printers and copiers.
  • Perform duties of a “runner”, gathering information from timers and event staff on the pool deck.
  • Assist in replacing event pool deck equipment.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

  • Database software applications.
  • Ability to apply standards, policies, and procedures associated with aquatic events.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, provide excellent customer service, and the ability to positively interact with a variety of people in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, adapt to changes, and provide high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to learn and master operation of Omega sports equipment and event management software within 2 months.
  • Ability to help in emergency situations including facility evacuations.

It Would Be Great If You Also Bring:

  • Sports Management software such as Hytek.
  • OMEGA sport equipment including swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo. 
  • Knowledge of operating LED videowall scoreboards.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location: King County Aquatic Center, 650 SW Campus Dr., Federal Way WA. 98023
  • Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position is flexible and can be varied and event dependent. It may require weekends and late evening work as well as split shifts.  This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is not represented.
  • Duration: This recruitment aims to fill open Short-Term Temporary (STT) positions that will staff events and other scheduled use.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, step up onto a 12″ high elevated stage, and walk for shifts up to 12 hours.
  • Regularly operate swimming equipment and computers for multiple periods up to 4-hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to be around a loud horn, officials using whistles and stadium music played over the PA system.
  • Ability to work under overhead LED lighting up to 200 footcandles, with brief moments of flashing light patterns.
