A lifelong love of parks often starts in childhood or young adulthood. Park professionals can help to nurture this connection with nature and local parks through a variety of programs and opportunities for youth to meaningfully engage with these spaces.
Guest speakers from Groundwork USA’s Mountains to Main Street program spoke about how they empower youth to reimagine National Park Service sites in their communities by undertaking partnership projects that are relevant to their everyday lives. Syatt Cleveland, a family-run nonprofit, talked about the programs they offer that expose youth of color to nature, skilled sports, and opportunities to build confidence and leadership skills.
