Dear City Parks Alliance Members:
For the past twenty years, I have had the incredible honor of leading the City Parks Alliance. Together, we have built a movement that recognizes urban parks not just as amenities, but as essential infrastructure for healthy, resilient, and equitable cities.
Today, I am sharing the news that I have decided to step down as Executive Director, effective August 7, 2027.
It is difficult to put into words how much this organization and this community mean to me. When I look back at what we have accomplished together, I am filled with immense pride at our accomplishments, including:
Why I Am Sharing This News Now
I am choosing to step down at a time when the Alliance is at its strongest. We have a dedicated staff, a record level of organizational membership, and the financial stability to support continued growth.
By making this announcement now—well over a year in advance—I hope to give our Board of Directors enough time to conduct a thoughtful, comprehensive search for the next leader of this movement without disrupting our momentum.
The Road Ahead
I am not slowing down just yet!
For the next 15 months, my focus remains entirely on setting the Alliance up for its next chapter of success.
I look forward to seeing many of you in person at Greater & Greener in Austin to celebrate all we have built together and to talk about the bright future ahead for the Alliance.
Thank you for your partnership, your passion, and your tireless commitment to our city parks. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve as your executive director.
With deep gratitude,
Catherine Nagel
