Brookside Gardens, a 55-acre horticulture display garden located in Wheaton, MD seeks a part-time seasonal employee to help lead 2-5 weeks of summer camp for children. The ideal candidate is energetic and enjoys being outside, working with a diverse team, and inspiring an appreciation of nature with campers.

This position pays at a rate of $15.25-20.13 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Instruct outdoor nature and science camp programs for approximately 15 campers and work collaboratively with career staff and other counselors to run summer camp activities.

  • Assist with customer service needs of the summer camp such as scheduling, welcoming families, and promptly answering questions in person, through email, or over the phone.
  • Deliver scientifically accurate and age-appropriate programming in engaging formats for different ages of children

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years related experience OR college student in education, natural/environmental sciences, or a related field.

  • At least 18 years of age, able to pass FBI and MD background check.
  • Maryland Natural History knowledge and ability to communicate in another language a plus.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified or ability to be trained after hire.

Working Conditions

This position requires work both inside and outside with exposure to weather, dirt, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.) Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hike over both paved and unpaved trails. Works independently and as part of a team.
