These are on-call positions that will work no more than 39 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits.

Denver Parks & Recreation’s Forestry and Natural Resources division is seeking two Seasonal Natural Resources Workers to support Denver Mountain Parks.  These positions will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the management of city and county forests, including fuels reduction, forest management planning, noxious weed treatments, and many other forestry/natural resources tasks.

These positions will report to the Mountain Parks Headquarters at 300 Union Ave., Morrison, CO 80465. These positions will work Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Job duties and responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform cruising and data collection for forest-wide inventory
  • Operate a chainsaw for thinning, firewood, insect/disease, and fire mitigation
  • Assist with fire mitigation and forest health service contract layout and management including cruising, boundary delineation, and marking
  • Operate various GPS and GIS applications
  • Implement vegetation management prescriptions including pesticide applications, plant assessments, inventory, and monitoring
  • Mix, load and apply herbicides in a safe manner
  • Perform general labor including fence, facility, and equipment maintenance

We are seeking self-motivated individuals who are team players and are looking to expand their forestry experience. Additionally, our ideal candidates will have:

  • A degree or coursework completed toward a degree in forestry or another related natural resources field
  • Forestry field experience
  • Tree species identification experience
  • Native plant species and invasive plant species identification experience
  • Technical report writing and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle in variable weather and road conditions
  • Ability or willingness to learn to operate chainsaws, logging equipment, and other forestry equipment
  • Ability and willingness to perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
  • National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S-130/190 Wildfire training
  • NWCG Wildland Fire Chainsaws Training S-212
  • Pesticide applicators license or ability/desire to attain license
  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License
