Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking a Parks City Inspector to perform inspection work in support of parks operations including supporting utility field locates, reviewing blueprints, maps, and construction drawings, and ensuring compliance with City standards. This position will report to maintenance facility at 678 S. Jason St., Denver. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. with rotating on-call after-hours/emergency response as needed.

Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform parks operations and construction inspection work to ensure compliance with City standards and ordinances, and enforce compliance by monitoring and re-inspecting work or violations to ensure compliance with standards and specifications, through onsite audits, reviews, and inspections
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with related parties and provide strong customer service in support of job responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate approved construction and improvement plans for conformance with City standards and guidelines and determine the proper course of action to ensure compliance
  • Perform research and compile information from public and private utility organizations to generate preliminary drawings to assist project engineers or private citizens in locating underground utilities
  • Interpret and extract data from blueprints, a variety of maps, engineering orders, architectural drawings and building specifications; learn applicable codes, standards, and ordinances, and receive guidance on larger and more complex inspections
  • Investigate and resolve complaints and other compliance issues, and may issue citations, notices, stop work orders, or summonses
  • Write reports and maintain records and documents for historical accounts associated with tracking permits, projects, legal actions, and compliance issues
  • Work out in the field in potentially inclement weather conditions and subject to traffic, roadways, and pedestrians, conduct work safely and considerately
  • Assist in the processing of utility locate tickets

We are looking for a knowledgeable professional with strong customer service skills and written/verbal communication skills. Our ideal candidate will have superior attention to detail and safety considerations and will be able to work cooperatively with various groups involved in the inspection work. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have:

  • Proficiency with tablets, GIS, Map It Denver, and Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Experience with Tier 1 utility locate requests
  • Experience with construction inspection or oversight

  • Education: Graduate from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience conducting on-site inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with standards and ordinances
  • Licensures/Certification(s): This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
  • Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
