Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking a Parks Amenities Manager to play a crucial role in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of parks infrastructure throughout the City and County of Denver. This is a great opportunity for a knowledgeable maintenance professional to lead and develop a strong and cohesive team.
This position will lead and manage the Parks Amenities team including the Amenities, Aquatics, and Plumbing team. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and monitoring work programs in accordance with division maintenance standards. Developing and managing operating budgets, leading a work team of full-time and seasonal employees, and contractors, and providing customer response to citizens, City Council, and division partners. This position will report to 4495 Jason Street, Denver CO, 80211. This position will require availability to work on weekends or for weather response as needed and will work a 9/80 flex schedule, leading to having every other Friday off.

Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Direct and supervise subordinate supervisors and staff in the construction and maintenance involved in the Amenities, Aquatics and Plumbing Maintenance teams
- Create and implement weekly, monthly, and annual work plans that support meeting Parks Maintenance Standards as they relate to the department’s strategic plan – the Game Plan for a Healthy City. These work plans will focus on Every Drop, Every Person, and Every Dollar that is Uniquely Denver
- Participate in planning efforts of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), assist with developing assigned annual operating and CIP budgets, and inventory in a fiscally responsible manner. Meet all deadlines in annual budget preparation
- Allocate funds and resources in an efficient manner to complete work programs
- Maintain expenses within approved budgets and keep checkbook reconciled to monthly financials
- Maintain and foster positive relationships with employees, customers, City Council, and internal and external partners
- Coordinate projects with other City agencies/departments and customers, handle sensitive public relations problems
- Implement and interpret policies and procedures developed by DPR leadership and recommend establishment or modification of policies and procedures
- Review, develop, and modify work plans, methods, and procedures, determine work priorities, and develop work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provide work instruction, assist employees with difficult or unusual assignments, and encourage innovation
- Develop the performance enhancement plan, document performance, provide performance feedback, formally evaluate the work of employees, and provide reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Develop and implement training and development plans and opportunities for subordinate staff
- Resolve problems, mediate conflicts encountered during daily operations, determine appropriate solutions, and promote teamwork. Encourage regular communication and inform staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization
- Document causes for disciplinary action, initiate letters of reprimand, and make formal recommendations for disciplinary action. Respond to formal and informal employee grievances and prepare written responses
- Conduct hiring interviews and select candidates for job openings
- Inspect and approve contract work in progress and upon completion, ensuring compliance with approved plans and specifications
- Ensure the department’s compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements
We are looking for an innovative and collaborative leader with strong decision-making and coaching skills. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in implementing best management practices for parks amenities maintenance in a medium to large municipal system. Experience managing facility and aquatic maintenance
- Experience in capital equipment replacement including 5-year replacement program, research, vendor networking, industry trends, specification and purchasing process. Focusing on collaborations with the Mayor’s Office on Sustainability as their goals relate to parks equipment fleet management
- Experience in supporting asset inventory management using a CMMS system
- Understanding of current DPR park standards relating contractors that perform work on parks property and restoration from their project on parks property, and protecting parks infrastructure from damages
- Ability and willingness to obtain and Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification within first year of employment

- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Parks Administration, Business Administration, or another related field
- Experience: Three (3) years of supervisory experience
- Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
- Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
