The Equity and Inclusion Manager within Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) reports to the Bureau Director and is a member of the bureau’s executive leadership team. This position assumes a visible profile within the organization as well as to external stakeholders. The Equity and Inclusion Manager is afforded a high level of discretion in carrying out their duties and assignments.
The Equity and Inclusion Manager leads an equity team focused on issues of race, disability, LGBTQ+, and culturally and historically underserved communities. The equity teams’ mission is to provide transparent information, engagement, education, and support within the bureau and for the community. The team creates opportunities to welcome, embrace, and celebrate the differences that surround us.
The incumbent combines knowledge of PP&R’s mission and operations with best practices in equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion to develop and manage initiatives that will contribute to the achievement of PP&R’s and the City’s strategic equity goals. The position’s responsibilities are broad in scope, strategic in nature and support all the bureau’s employees, operations, programs, Parks patrons, stakeholders and community partnerships. The position works in consultation with the Portland Parks Board and Portland Parks Foundation to ensure alignment. In addition to oversight of the Five-Year Racial Equity Plan, the Equity and Inclusion Manager will be expected to contribute to the organization’s strategic and financial sustainability plans.
