The Presidio Trust is seeking an Engineering Technician (Transportation) who will support the Planning and Compliance Department. Reporting to the Transportation Program Manager, the Engineering Technician works in a variety of work situations aligned with and/or supporting transportation projects, systems, and data collection that advance the development and management of a safe and sustainable transportation network for all modes in the Presidio.

This is a full-time four-year fixed term hybrid position with benefits and a 2024 starting salary range of $64,261, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The starting base salary is dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. There is an option for a part-time schedule, with limited benefits. This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically The Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California. Responsibilities
- Perform technical work assignments that consist of several different processes and procedures. Analyze the issues and project objectives and adjust standard procedures or operations based on situations and conditions encountered in the field or during the study. Recommend changes to practices and procedures for similar studies.
- Extract data from a variety of sources and interpret the data with consideration of the source characteristics; recognize and report errors, inconsistencies, and other deficiencies in technical data; and perform quality assurance and data integrity review of electronic data and records.
- Draft technical documentation for assigned technical engineering work assignments. Select the method for presenting data for internal use. Keep records, prepare reports, review findings, and make recommendations and suggestions to engineers and supervisor.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of data systems. Ensure necessary data and records are properly updated and maintained.
- Use, adapt, or adjust equipment for optimum operation. Inspect, test, and calibrate a variety of equipment.
- Interpret and review equipment results and recommend modification of future test procedures as appropriate to improve precision or operation.
- Install portable traffic counter and speed measurement equipment. Collect, validate, and analyze collected traffic speed and count data.
- Measure slopes and horizontal and vertical dimensions of completed construction work to confirm conformance with accessibility standards. Review findings and make suggestions for improvements to engineers and supervisor.
- Periodically assess condition and operation of traffic counters, parking pay stations, electric vehicle charging stations and other equipment to confirm proper functionality.
- Prepare and/or modify drawings using AutoCAD from layouts or sketches. Drawings typically include roadway or trail cross – sections or layout, illustrating grades, dimensions, tolerances, and cross-references to industry technical standards.
- Interpret and review construction drawings and specifications for conformance to Presidio Trust standards and accessibility standards, established engineering standards, criteria, and project requirements.
- Review traffic control plans submitted by contractors for compliance with Presidio Trust guidelines and CA MUTCD.
- Compute and tabulate quantities of various construction materials. Perform quality assurance checks on preliminary and final estimates of quantities prepared by others.
- Assist in preparing engineering cost estimates.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High-school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent supplemented by one year of directly engineering related college level coursework
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in computer assisted drafting, construction, and/or engineering-related work.
- Familiarity with civil engineering/transportation engineering industry standards and guidelines, such as accessibility standards.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
- Valid California Driver’s License
