Milwaukee Recreation is seeking a dedicated and highly qualified park management professional to implement its recently completed Maintenance Management Plan.  The ideal candidate is capable of leading and supervising employees, teaching and mentoring staff, maximizing efficiencies and productivity, and implementing maintenance standards to ensure a well-maintained park system.

Current inventory includes 319 acres of outdoor recreation space consisting of athletic facilities, play structures, vegetation, and comfort stations.  A team of 10 full-time and approximately 20 part-time seasonal staff maintain these amenities located throughout the city of Milwaukee.

Candidates with experience in park maintenance management who are capable of advancing the care of Milwaukee Recreation’s outdoor recreation spaces to the next level should apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry; Parks and Recreation Management; Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of full-time experience in park management, developing staff training, natural area stewardship, construction, and hands-on maintenance of grounds, buildings, vehicles, facilities and experience utilizing the Microsoft Office suite and maintenance management software applications.

Preferred certifications, and/or ability to obtain within one year of hire:

  • Class C Driver’s License
  • Pesticide Applicator License
  • CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector)
  • ISA (International Society of Arboriculture)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the implementation of the department’s maintenance management plan.
  • Develops solutions to provide safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing recreation facilities for community use.
  • Ensures that maintenance work is completed in compliance with all laws, regulations, policies, and safety standards.
  • Coordinates and develops plans for training of maintenance staff.
  • Maintains inventories and assures that adequate materials, supplies, and tools are available.
  • Reports and resolves safety conditions and security concerns.
  • Monitors budget expenditures and assists in preparation of Department budget for recreational facilities and grounds.
  • Identifies and implements electronic maintenance tracking software to plan routine and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Evaluates equipment for purchases and assists in the development of an equipment specifications matrix.
  • Works closely with MPS Facilities and Maintenance Department to ensure efficiencies with shared resources and assistance with project management.
  • Meets regularly with upper administration, internal staff, external stakeholders, and local governmental agencies regarding recreational facilities matters.
  • Maintains, records and prepares inventory and fixed assets reports.
  • Assist’s with and actively participates in Recreation Department special events.
  • Actively supports the Five Priorities for Success.
