Parks Won on Election Day

Parks Won on Election Day
Back to Blog TOPIC: Advocacy

In a year that brought uncertainty and challenges to our nation’s city parks, Election Day provided some relief. Voters in 11 states across the U.S. approved nearly $3.7 billion in new funding for parks, climate resiliency, and public lands, according to analysis from the Trust for Public Land.

City parks are at the heart of resilient and equitable cities. During the coronavirus pandemic, we have experienced a renewed and deeper understanding of the important role parks and greenspace play in our physical and mental health, as well as our economy. This new funding will help cities rebuild their park budgets.

City Parks Alliance is proud to be a part of 100 community and park organizations demanding Congress include a one-time investment of $500 million for close-to-home parks in any future coronavirus stimulus or infrastructure bill.
